Court Hill Day 3

Thursday. We all woke up for breakfast at 8 a.m. before departing for Avebury at about 9.30. At Avebury we headed first for the museum and study centre where we had a very interesting and informative talk from Julie, one of the education team. There were lots of artefacts and activities to play on all about the life and times of Stone-Age man. The heavens then opened at lunchtime but the museum staff very kindly allowed us to eat under the cover of the museum ‘barn’. We then walked around the Avebury stones accompanied by a fair amount of rain and sheep! We then went back on the coach and left for Stonehenge, where the weather improved considerably! We are now back on the coach heading back to Court Hill for steak pie and chips. Yum!

Uffington Castle

Court Hill Day 2

After a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast – full English for most – we took the coach to Ashbury and proceeded to walk to the ancient burial tomb at Wayland Smithy. We had a few light squally showers but managed to have lunch under an enormous great tree and we wrapped up carefully today to face the elements! Next up Uffington Castle and the White Horse…

Court Hill Day 1

It’s getting late, the children are tucked up in bed and there is peace at last. We enjoyed a very pleasant day at Cotswold Wildlife Park where we spent a good 4 or 5 hours, including an outdoor lunch with barely a spot of rain all day. The ‘Madagascar’ enclosure was a particular highlight with lemurs actually jumping around us and not shut out by bars.
We arrived at Court Hill at about 4.45pm and it was time to unpack. The next task for the children was to make their own beds – this required a fair amount of ‘modelling’ shall we say from the adults!
Next was dinner which went down very well indeed after a long day.
We then embarked on a beautiful evening walk, in really very pleasant evening sunshine, along the Berkshire Ridgeway.
We rounded everything off with a nice mug of hot chocolate and some biscuits!

Snowdonia Day 3

Unfortunately Year 6 couldn’t walk up Snowdon today. Although there was no rain, there were heavy winds of up to 40 – 50 mph , making it too dangerous to attempt. Instead it was a day at Carnarvon – to the castle, and also a lovely, but very blustery, walk along the sea front. I will keep you posted with any more developments tomorrow.
